Guilford County Schools’ (GCS) student-athletes are permitted to return to limited, voluntary workouts, though this may be adjusted or canceled if local COVID-19 cases rise.
The limited, voluntary workouts began on Sunday for volleyball and cross country. However, according to a September GCS news release, activities are restricted to a maximum of two days per week during the first two weeks. Then, on Monday, Oct. 12, swimming, diving and marching band will be permitted to start workouts twice a week, while volleyball and cross country move into a conditioning phase and are allowed to do up to four workouts a week.
According to the release, different sports will follow similar staggered schedules, beginning with two workouts for the first two weeks, then four per week over the next month leading up to the start date for that sport.
“We are pleased that we can begin phasing back in our athletics program,” Leigh Hebbard, GCS director of athletics, said in the release. “We know how important these activities are for our students and their well-being.”
