County of Guilford issued the following announcement on Dec. 20.
• Moderate rain expected across the state today, with a few thunderstorms are possible across eastern NC. While the primary impacts to any severe weather will be damaging wind gusts, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out within the risk area.
• A second round of precipitation will move through late Thursday into early Friday also bringing very cold temperatures and gusty winds. A brief changeover from rain to snow is possible in some areas. Rapidly plummeting temperatures as rain changes over to snow may cause areas of black ice on roadways across the west.
• A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the northern mountains through 1PM today. Mixed wintry precipitation will likely continue for the advisory areas through midday. As temperatures rapidly fall behind an arctic cold front, dangerous wind chill values will spread across the region.
• A Wind Chill Warning/Watch/Advisory will go into effect for western portions Friday morning and across central/eastern NC late Friday as temperatures plummet during the day Friday and overnight into Saturday morning.
• A Wind Advisory has been issued for portions of the NC Coast and Outer Banks as well as much of the mountains Friday morning through Friday evening. Winds will begin to increase tonight across western NC, increasing overnight and through Friday morning across central and eastern NC.
• A Coastal Flood Watch or Advisory is in effect along the immediate Coast due to gusty winds. Southern beaches could see minor flooding (up to 1 ft. AGL) through midday Thursday. The threat for coastal flooding will increase along the Outer Banks Friday morning and will continue through Friday evening where minor to moderate coastal flooding of 2-3 ft. AGL is possible.
