City of Greensboro issued the following announcement on July 27.
During the July 17 meeting, the Greensboro City Council approved a resolution authorizing City Manager Taiwo Jaiyeoba to enter into a reimbursement agreement of sewer improvements for no more than $500,000 to develop a new Topgolf attraction location off Guilford College Road. The council also approved an economic development incentive to IQE, Inc. not to exceed $37,755 for property improvements, purchasing new machinery and equipment, and creating jobs. IQU plans to invest more than $7 million and create 31 jobs over a five year period, with the new, full-time positions paying approximately $65,968.
A resolution was approved authorizing an agreement with Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI) for $142,000 to be used for sidewalk dining beautification and accessibility. The funding will allow business owners to bring outdoor extensions up to accessibility standards and to beautify the areas and bring a uniform aesthetic.
City Council authorized the 2022-23 Annual action Plan Application in the amount of $5.9M federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funds, $2.5M in Community Development Block Grant funds, $2.1M in HOME Consortium Program funds, and $1.1M in Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS program funds to address affordable housing, economic development, and community revitalization needs in Greensboro.
A contract was approved for $4.6M for groundwater remedial investigation and remedy at the Kitchen Operations Center, which is located on what was once the Stevecoknits site, a site with legacy soil contamination. Recent studies have shown that contaminated groundwater has been found on the site with levels higher than NC standards. The remediation investigation and remedy plan is anticipated to have multiple phases that take place over several years.
Council approved $1.3M for youth programming for the City’s Office of Workforce Development, as well as $2.5M to Piedmont Business Capital to create a revolving loan and grant program to assist in accelerating the recovery of minority and women’ owned businesses that have experienced negative economic impacts caused by COVID-19. The City also entered into an inter-local agreement with Guilford County for up to $10M in Emergency Rental Assistance program funds to continue a financial assistance program for eligible tenant households.
