City of Burlington issued the following announcement on June 24.
On a hot sweaty summer day at The Valley, Craig Cathey heated up the leaderboard with a sizzling 69 for a two-day total of 4 under par 136, clearing the field by 3 shots. Cathey's wire to wire win helped him capture his second straight Alamance County Am title.
Cathey remarked after the round, "My goal today was to hit a lot of fairways and greens. I started off slow, but then settled in and was able to make a few birdies and keep a strong lead throughout the back nine. I enjoyed the competition and it was great competing with these guys."
Mike Roshelli, a local member at The Valley, started strong out of the gates and finished with a solid round of even par 70 for a two-day total of 69-70--139. His one under performance earned him second place honors. Ray Womack played very consistent and finished 3rd place with a two-day total of 71-70--141 besting his round one score by one shot.
New this year, was the Ladies Senior Division, where Sue Lamn-Gurley, freshly back from a rotator cuff surgery fired a two-day total of 78-88--166 to win the division title.
"I had a great foursome this week and the golf course was outstanding. I was pleasantly surprised with my first full round back after surgery and look forward to spreading the word and having even more ladies compete next year," stated the ladies senior champ.
We were proud to have the women’s senior division this year and to have Sue as our Champion. Belinda Marley finished 2nd place with consistent rounds around 90 shooting 89--92--181. Honorable mention goes to Susan Yow for most improved score, as she shot 103- 89--192.
