With early voting in full swing in North Carolina, multiple reports of voter intimidation are increasing across the state.
The most recent concern was voiced by Rev. T. Anthony Spearman, leader of the North Carolina National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) group and member of the Guilford County Board of Elections, WXII News reported on Oct. 21.
Spearman told WXII about complaints he heard relating to inappropriate behavior at polling locations. The reverend said one incident involved a woman who stuck her head in the door of the voting location and reportedly told those there to "do the right thing" and "vote for a member of her party."
Spearman has additionally been informed of voters not wearing masks to the polls.
"This is unacceptable behavior," Spearman told WXII. "And it's interesting to me that it's happening, mainly in the African American communities."
Siembra NC, a North Carolina immigrant rights group, reported to WXII that Latinx voters were being intimidated in Greensboro on the first day of early voting.
Democracy North Carolina has noted similar complaints.
Spearman said that the voter intimidation in North Carolina is deeply disturbing.
