GUILFORD COUNTY: Fire Arm Permits Press Release

Guilford County issued the following announcement on Mar. 18.

To protect the safety, health and well-being of our residents and customers and prevent unnecessary exposure to potential sources of the Coronavirus, while continuing to provide quality service to the people of Guilford County, Sheriff Rogers is making some temporary adjustments to the processes of applying for Pistol Purchase Permits, Concealed Carry Handgun Permits and to fulfilling requests for fingerprints.

Effective immediately all applicants for Pistol Purchase Permits and Concealed Carry Permits, must initiate the application process via the internet using the Permitium on-line application tool from home or some other computer available to the applicant. Until further notice, the public computer kiosks located in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Firearm Permits Office at the Courthouse will be closed. These measures are being put in place to keep our residents and customers safe from potential exposure to the virus, which could occur by using these public computer kiosks.

After being completed on-line, Pistol Purchase Permit applications will then be sent to one of our three District Offices to be issued to the applicant. Every effort will be made to use the District Office nearest the home address of the applicant. The locations of our three District Offices are as follows:

District One

7504 Summerfield

Summerfield, N.C. 27358

District Two

5440 Millstream Rd

McLeansville, N.C. 27301

District Three

211 Hillstone Dr

Jamestown, N.C. 27282

Although each applicant must initiate his/her application packet for Concealed Carry Permits via the Permitium on-line website tool, the remainder of the CCH permit process will continue to take place at the Sheriff’s Firearm Permit Office located on the Lower Ground Level of the Guilford County Courthouse at 201 S. Eugene Street in Greensboro.

The Sheriff’s Office will also suspend fingerprinting for job applications and background checks.

As soon as it is safe and practical, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office will return back to its regular processes of applying for Pistol Purchase Permits, Concealed Carry Handgun Permits and fulfilling requests for fingerprints.

Any additional media inquiries should be directed to the Sheriff’s Communications Specialist Lori Poag at the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office at 336-641-2752.
