North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced that Pactiv Corporation, a Midwestern-based foodservice packaging-product company, will create 25 new jobs in Guilford County as part of an $8 million investment to expand its Greensboro operations.

“Companies like Pactiv choose to expand in North Carolina because our state has the right ingredients for success: the infrastructure and workforce to help grow their business,” Cooper said in a press release issued by the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

Since its founding in 1965, Pactiv has focused on producing and distributing high-quality foodservice packaging products. Today, Pactiv supplies every major foodservice retailer in North America, including popular fast-food chains and big-box retailers.

“It is important for us to grow in areas where there is both a good business climate and an available and skilled and workforce,” Pactiv Vice President of Operations Fred Mooney said in the release. “We have found Greensboro, North Carolina to be such a place. Thank you to the city of Greensboro and the state of North Carolina for their continued support of our growth.”

North Carolina Commerce Secretary Anthony M. Copeland says that North Carolina is the second-leading state in food and beverage processing.

“When North Carolina companies grow their operations in our state, it confirms the strength of our strong business climate, convenient location and capable workforce,” Copeland said in the release.

Part of the funding for Pactiv's expansion will come from a $50,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. These grants are awarded to local governments to help attract businesses and economic investment. Funds are contingent on job creation and meeting capital investment targets. The local government has to agree to provide a matching grant.

“This is great news for our community,” North Carolina state Rep. John Faircloth (R-High Point) said in the release. “With a capable workforce, we are confident that Pactiv will continue to thrive in Greensboro for many years to come.”

Pactiv currently employs more than 11.000 employees at more than 50 plants, mixing centers and distribution centers.
